Respiratory Profile, Region 9, Great Plains (KS, ND, NE, SD), Serum
Use
This test is used for assessing sensitization to various inhalant allergens found in the Great Plains region, including Kansas, North Dakota, Nebraska, and South Dakota. It helps in defining the allergen responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms and in identifying allergens that cause allergic responses or anaphylactic episodes. Additionally, it is useful for confirming sensitization prior to starting immunotherapy and investigating the specificity of allergic reactions to insect venom allergens, drugs, or chemical allergens.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Total IgE concentrations have limited diagnostic utility as they may be elevated in a variety of conditions, including allergic disease, primary immunodeficiencies, infections, inflammatory diseases, and malignancies. Specific IgE testing provides more relevant information for suspected allergic disease. False-positive results for IgE antibodies may occur due to nonspecific binding if total IgE concentration is extremely high (>2500 kU/L).
