SALL4 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Staining for SALL4 is useful in distinguishing germ cell tumors from carcinomas, lymphomas, and melanomas. SALL4 is a zinc-finger transcriptional factor required for maintaining embryonic stem cell pluripotency by regulating OCT4 transcription, which aids in the identification of germ cell tumors.
Special Instructions
This test includes only technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Any immunohistochemistry (IHC)/in situ hybridization (ISH) stain performed as part of the PATHC will be performed at the reviewing pathologist's discretion at an additional charge.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. If interpretation is required, order PATHC / Pathology Consultation for a full diagnostic evaluation or second opinion. The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors, potentially altering slide staining. Best practices for slide storage include minimizing exposure to high humidity, heat, plastics, and limiting storage time after unpackaging.
