SMAD4 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
SMAD4 (mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 4 drosophila) is a tumor suppressor and transcription factor part of the transforming growth factor beta signaling pathway. Normally expressed within the nucleus of epithelial cells, loss of SMAD4 expression results from inactivation of the _SMAD4_ gene due to sporadic genetic variants. This expression status is useful for diagnosing pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the immunohistochemical stain and does not provide pathologist interpretation. If interpretation is needed, order PATHC / Pathology Consultation for a full evaluation. It should not be ordered with PATHC as technical component stains will be canceled.
Limitations
The charge of glass slides can be influenced by environmental factors, potentially altering staining. Inconsistent staining may occur due to unsuitable glass slides. Best practices include minimizing time slides are stored after being unpackaged and limiting exposure to high humidity, heat, and plastics. Cut paraffin section age affects immunoreactivity, with practices suggesting cutting within 6 weeks.
