Spinach IgG
Use
This test measures IgG antibodies specific to spinach (Spinacia oleracea). The clinical utility of food‑specific IgG tests has not been established; presence of food‑specific IgG alone cannot be taken as evidence of food allergy and indicates immunologic sensitization rather than clinically relevant allergy. It may be used in special clinical situations to guide elimination diets and challenges, in patients with food‑related complaints, when ordered by knowledgeable physicians.
Special Instructions
Specimen requirements: Draw blood into a plain red‑top tube (serum gel tube acceptable), centrifuge and aliquot 0.5 mL of serum into a plastic vial, refrigerate for transport. Day(s) performed: Monday through Friday. Performing lab: Eurofins Viracor.
Limitations
Reference ranges have not been established for food‑specific IgG tests. The test is developed by Eurofins Viracor and has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. FDA; limitations apply regarding regulatory oversight. Interpretation must consider that IgG indicates sensitization, not allergy.
