Stachybotrys chartarum/atra IgE
Use
The Stachybotrys chartarum/atra IgE test is used to detect specific IgE antibodies against the Stachybotrys chartarum/atra, a type of mold. It is typically ordered in the context of diagnosing mold allergies or related respiratory conditions. Performing this test helps in identifying allergic reactions which could contribute to symptoms such as asthma, rhinitis, or dermatitis when exposed to this mold.
Special Instructions
Blood should be collected in a plain red-top tube, though a serum gel tube is acceptable. The sample must then be spun down and 0.5 mL of serum should be refrigerated in a plastic vial for submission.
Limitations
The test is not FDA cleared or approved. The performance characteristics have been determined by the laboratory, and it is classified as an analyte-specific reagent (ASR) product. The results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other allergy tests. Gross lipemia is a condition that may lead to specimen rejection.
