Synovial Sarcoma Panel, Technical Component Only
Use
Aiding in distinguishing synovial sarcomas from similar sarcomas, this test uses SS18-SSX fusion-specific antibody and SSX C-terminal antibody markers. These are essential tools in diagnosing synovial sarcoma due to the unique translocation on chromosome 18 that results in the SS18-SSX fusion protein specific to this sarcoma type. The antibodies distinguish synovial sarcomas from other histologically similar sarcomas, thereby playing a crucial role in accurate clinical diagnosis.
Special Instructions
This test is for the technical component only, meaning it includes only the technical performance of the stain and provides no pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered concurrently with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as technical component stains will be canceled if ordered together. Digital images require electronic ordering for access, and manual requisition orders will not provide digital image access.
Limitations
The age of paraffin sections can affect immunoreactivity, and stability can vary widely. Glass slide charges are sensitive to environmental conditions; poor slide surface chemistry may alter staining results. Best practices include minimizing storage time and exposure to high humidity and heat. The test provides technical stain quality only and does not include pathologist interpretation.
