T, B and NK Lymphocyte Quantitation, New York, Blood
Use
This test is useful for serial monitoring of CD4 T-cell count in patients who are HIV-positive, as well as for follow-up and diagnostic evaluation of primary immunodeficiencies, including severe combined immunodeficiency. It is also utilized for immune monitoring after immunosuppressive therapy for transplantation, autoimmunity, and other immunological conditions. It helps in the assessment of immune reconstitution post-hematopoietic cell transplantation and early screening of gross quantitative anomalies in lymphocyte subsets caused by infections or malignancies. Additionally, it provides absolute quantitation of circulating B cells for diagnosing patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia as per guidelines from the 2008 International Workshop on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
Special Instructions
The test is only orderable by New York clients. It should not be used for diagnosing lymphocytic malignancies or evaluating lymphocytosis of unknown etiology. For such cases, LCMS / Leukemia/Lymphoma Immunophenotyping, Flow Cytometry should be considered. It's recommended to package specimens as close to shipping time as possible for arrival within 24 hours of collection. Date and time of collection are required for accurate monitoring.
Limitations
This assay should not be used for diagnosing lymphocytic malignancies or evaluating lymphocytosis of unknown etiology. It is important to consider diurnal variation when serially monitoring patients. Lymphocyte subset counts should be interpreted along with clinical presentation and other immunological parameters. Cortisol and catecholamine levels, along with environmental factors, may influence absolute lymphocyte counts.
