T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia/Lymphoma (ALL), Children's Oncology Group Enrollment Testing, FISH, Varies
Use
This test is used for detecting recurrent common chromosome abnormalities associated with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (T-ALL) in pediatric patients considered for Children's Oncology Group (COG) clinical trials and research protocols. It plays a role as an adjunct to conventional chromosome studies when these studies are unsuccessful. The test can also be reflexed to identify translocation partners using additional probes.
Special Instructions
The test is performed only on specimens from pediatric patients being considered for enrollment in COG protocols. If not, the test will be canceled and reordered as TALFP for pediatric T-Lymphoblastic Leukemia/Lymphoma Panel, FISH, Varies. At diagnosis, performing conventional cytogenetic studies with this panel is advised if specimen availability is limited.
Limitations
This test should not be used to screen for residual T-ALL/lymphoblastic lymphoma. It is not a substitute for conventional chromosome studies which detect abnormalities associated with other hematological disorders not covered by this FISH panel. Bone marrow is preferred, but whole blood can be used if malignant cells are verified in it.
