T-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia/Lymphoma, FISH, Tissue
Use
This test is useful for detecting recurrent chromosome abnormalities associated with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (T-ALL) in paraffin-embedded tissue specimens, and for monitoring response to therapy by tracking known chromosome abnormalities in patients with T-ALL/T-lymphoblastic lymphoma.
Special Instructions
The test must be performed on tissue; blood and bone marrow specimens are inappropriate. A pathology report is required for testing, and any necessary probe requests should be indicated clearly on the request form. This is because specific probes are selected based on the intended clinical question or known abnormalities.
Limitations
The test is not approved by the FDA and is best used as an adjunct to existing clinical and pathologic information. Non-formalin fixed specimens and decalcified tissues have a lower success rate. Insufficient tumor presence or lack of FISH signal post-hybridization can result in cancellation or inconclusive results.

Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor tissue block or slides
Collection Instructions
Submit a formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor tissue block. Blocks prepared with alternative fixation methods will be attempted but are less favorable for successful results; provide fixation method used. For tissues, include 1 hematoxylin and eosin-stained slide and additional unstained slides for each probe set if individual probes are requested.
Causes for Rejection
Suitability will be evaluated at Mayo Clinic Laboratories.
