Targeted Stimulant Screen, Random, Urine
Use
This test is used to determine compliance or identify the use of illicit stimulant drugs. It is particularly valuable in clinical settings where immunoassays are inadequate for detecting various stimulants. The test employs high-resolution mass spectrometry to identify numerous stimulant compounds, offering precise results that aid in understanding stimulant usage or exposure in patients. However, it is not intended for use in employment-related drug testing.
Special Instructions
This test should be ordered when there is a clinical indication for detailed stimulant screening. No additional testing is typically required unless unexpected stimulants are found, in which case confirmatory testing can be requested at an extra charge. If not ordering electronically, a Therapeutics Test Request form should be completed and sent with the specimen.
Limitations
This test does not intend to cover all possible stimulants and may not detect those not included in the 11 tested substances. It requires precise specimen collection and handling to ensure accuracy. Gross icterus in the sample will result in rejection. Additionally, the test may not yield conclusive results in cases of diluted or adulterated urine, improper timing of collection, or patient noncompliance.
