Tea, IgE, Serum
Use
The Tea, IgE, Serum test is used for establishing the diagnosis of an allergy to tea by detecting the presence of IgE antibodies specific to tea allergens in the serum. It aids in defining the allergen responsible for eliciting allergic signs and symptoms. This test helps in identifying allergens responsible for allergic responses and/or anaphylactic episodes, confirming sensitization before beginning immunotherapy, and investigating the specificity of allergic reactions to various allergens, including those from insect venoms, drugs, or chemicals.
Special Instructions
Specimen collection requires centrifugation and aliquoting of serum into a plastic vial. Preferred collection container is a serum gel; acceptable is a red top tube. Electronic ordering should be accompanied by the Allergen Test Request form (T236) if not handled electronically.
Limitations
Testing for IgE antibodies is not useful for determining residual clinical sensitivity post-immunotherapy or in cases where management does not rely on allergen specificity identification. False positives may occur in individuals with significantly elevated serum IgE (>2500 kU/L) due to nonspecific binding.
