Thyroglobulin Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Thyroglobulin is a glycoprotein produced by thyroid epithelial cells that bind with iodine to form thyroid hormone in the blood. Staining with thyroglobulin antibody is instrumental in classifying poorly differentiated or metastatic thyroid carcinomas, allowing for precise identification and differentiation.
Special Instructions
This test provides only the technical component of the immunohistochemical stain and does not include pathologist interpretation. If pathologist evaluation is necessary, order PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as technical component orders will be canceled in conjunction with pathologist consultations.
Limitations
The age of a cut paraffin section can influence immunoreactivity, and the stability thresholds of such sections vary depending on the antigen, as extensively noted in the literature. Optimal practice dictates cutting paraffin sections within six weeks of examination. Additionally, the surface chemistry of slides, particularly positively charged slides, is susceptible to alterations due to environmental exposure, resulting in potential staining inconsistencies.
