Trofile DNA Co-Receptor Tropism Assay
Use
This assay is useful for detecting HIV-1 coreceptor tropism and determining eligibility for CCR5 antagonist therapy such as Selzentry™ (maraviroc). It evaluates the ability of the HIV-1 virus population to utilize CCR5, CXCR4, or both co-receptors on CD4+ cells, providing crucial information for treatment decisions in HIV-1 patients, particularly those with undetectable viral loads.
Special Instructions
Trofile DNA is recommended for patients with undetectable viral loads. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
Limitations
Nonreportable results may occur if co-receptor tropism cannot be determined due to reduced viral fitness or compromised sample handling. Trofile DNA sample collection and handling instructions differ from Trofile and other Monogram assays. This test ensures all determinants of tropism are tested using the complete gp160 coding region of the HIV-1 envelope protein.
