Tryptase Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful as a marker of mast cells. It supports the diagnosis of mast cell disease due to the characteristic immunohistochemical staining pattern the tryptase antibody produces in mast cells. In patients with suspected mast cell disorders, the staining provides important diagnostic information.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not include pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC/Pathology Consultation as they will be canceled if done so. For a complete diagnostic evaluation, order PATHC for a review by a qualified pathologist.
Limitations
The test is limited by the age of cut paraffin sections, which can affect immunoreactivity. Stability thresholds vary among published literature, and antigen stability is time-dependent, suggesting that paraffin sections should ideally be cut within 6 weeks to avoid diminished staining quality. Environmental factors affecting the charge of glass slides can also alter staining consistency, with improper storage leading to inconsistent results.
