Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) immunostain aids in the identification of VZV infection, which is part of the herpes virus family and responsible for causing varicella (chicken pox) and herpes zoster (shingles). The test utilizes a cocktail of antibodies to detect several glycoproteins, the nucleocapsid protein, and the immediate early protein of the virus, providing crucial information for diagnosing VZV infections.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the immunohistochemical stain without pathologist interpretation. If interpretation is required, the PATHC / Pathology Consultation should be ordered. Ensure that the green 'Attention Pathology' and the pink Immunostain Technical Only labels are attached to the outside of the transport container. This test should not be ordered with PATHC, as technical components will be canceled if done so.
Limitations
The technical stain does not provide interpretation; such interpretation should be contextually integrated with patient's clinical history by a qualified pathologist. The immunoreactivity can be affected by the age of the paraffin sections and the charge of the glass slides. Best practices include cutting paraffin sections within 6 weeks and proper storage of charged slides to minimize exposure to high humidity and heat.
