Volatile Screen, Random, Urine
Use
Detects the presence of methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, or acetone in urine and quantifies them to indicate possible exposure or intoxication, with clinical implications including CNS depression and metabolic acidosis.
Special Instructions
Ordering may require completion of a Therapeutics Test Request (T831) if not ordered electronically; for chain-of-custody situations, use alternate test codes (VLTS or VLTB).
Limitations
Quantitation in urine correlates poorly with degree of intoxication. Positive findings must be interpreted in a clinical context to account for poor correlation.
