Walnut Component rJug r 1
Use
The Walnut Component rJug r 1 test is used to detect specific IgE antibodies to the Jug r 1 allergen in serum, which is derived from walnuts. The presence of these antibodies indicates a sensitization to the walnut component, which is associated with walnut allergies. This test assists in the assessment and diagnosis of walnut allergies and helps in managing allergic responses in patients who display clinical reactions to walnut exposure.
Special Instructions
This test requires drawing blood into a plain red-top tube or a serum gel tube, spinning it down, and sending 0.5 mL of serum refrigerated in a plastic vial. The stability of serum samples is essential, with refrigeration preferred for up to 28 days. Samples may be stored at ambient temperature for 28 days or frozen for up to 365 days.
Limitations
The test's performance is affected by the quality and condition of the serum sample. Gross hemolysis and gross lipemia are grounds for rejection. As with any laboratory test, results must be interpreted carefully, considering the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic information. The presence of high total IgE or nonspecific binding may affect results, although the ImmunoCAP method is designed to minimize these impacts.
