Zinc Transporter 8 (ZnT8) Antibody, Serum
Use
The ZnT8 antibody is utilized for the clinical distinction of type 1 from type 2 diabetes mellitus, identifying individuals at risk of type 1 diabetes, including high-risk relatives of patients with diabetes and those with gestational diabetes. It also aids in predicting the future need for insulin treatment in adult-onset diabetic patients.
Special Instructions
Negative results do not exclude the diagnosis or future risk of type 1 diabetes mellitus. Further testing for other antibodies and HLA genetic markers may provide additional risk stratification.
Limitations
The test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Negative results do not exclude the diagnosis or future risk for type 1 diabetes mellitus. The requirement for insulin therapy should be monitored through hyperglycemia assessment.
