c-kit, CD117, technical only
Use
CD117 (c-kit) is a proto-oncogene activated in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). This IHC stain highlights mast cells (normal and abnormal) in the assessment of mast cell neoplasms, and is used to confirm GIST. Staining is also observed in mast cells and myeloid stem cells. Technical component only.
Special Instructions
Fresh tissues must be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for long term storage if needed. Unstained slides require positively charged glass slides to prevent background staining and tissue loss.
Limitations
The test provides only the technical component. Interpretation of the staining, including correlation with clinical findings, requires pathologist review which is not included.
