CD1a
Use
CD1a is a specific marker expressed on dendritic cells, cortical thymocytes within the thymus, Langerhans' cells, and dermal dendrocytes of the skin. These cells are involved in immune responses and antigen presentation. Testing for CD1a can aid in the diagnosis of conditions like Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis or Thymoma by identifying the presence of these specific cell populations.
Special Instructions
Fresh tissue specimens should be fixed in formalin for an appropriate duration and may be transferred to 70% ethanol for long-term storage. Unstained slides should be positively charged to prevent tissue loss and background staining. Samples must be tested within three months upon storage in ethanol.
Limitations
Specimens not fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin or B plus will be rejected, as other fixatives are not acceptable for this test. The methodology relies on the integrity of the sample and proper fixation for accurate results. Interpretation may be limited by non-specific staining or tissue degradation if guidelines are not adhered to.
