CD4, technical only
Use
CD4 is expressed on helper/inducer T-cells and at a lower level on monocytes. Most cases of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, including mycosis fungoides, express the CD4 antigen. Further, HTLV-1 associated adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma and sites of inflammation are generally CD4 positive. Technical component only. Pathologist read not included.
Special Instructions
Fresh Tissues: Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer term storage if needed. Samples must be tested within 3 months after placing in ethanol. Unstained slides: Positively charged glass slides required to prevent background staining and prevent tissue loss. Slides should be left unbaked.
Limitations
This test is for the technical component only; it does not include a pathologist's interpretation. Immunohistochemistry results might vary based on tissue fixation and processing methods. Specimens fixed in non-standard fixatives may be rejected, leading to potential delays.
