CD42b, technical only
Use
CD42b glycoprotein is expressed on the cell surface of megakaryocytes in bone marrow and platelets in blood vessels. Occasional staining is also observed in the basal epithelial of skin. Absence of CD42b antigen on platelets is reported to be a possible indicator of Bernard-Soulier disease. Technical component only.
Special Instructions
Fresh tissues should be fixed at a 20:1 fixative to tissue ratio, 10% neutral buffered formalin for 6-72 hours. Positively charged glass slides are required to prevent background staining and prevent tissue loss. Slides should be left unbaked.
Limitations
This test is the technical component only and does not include a pathologist read. Stained slides have indefinite stability, but fresh tissues must be tested within 72 hours and can be stored in 70% alcohol for transportation. Only specimens fixed in 10% NBF or B plus are acceptable; others will be rejected.
