CD99, technical only
Use
CD99 is implicated in various cellular processes such as homotypic aggregation of T-cells, upregulation of T-cell receptor and MHS molecules, apoptosis of immature thymocytes, and leukocyte diapedesis. It is expressed on most normal human tissues and virtually all hematopoietic cell types (except granulocytes). This marker aids in diagnosing tumors like Ewings sarcoma, T-cell lymphoma, and PNET. The test is technical only and does not include a pathologist's interpretation.
Special Instructions
Fresh tissues should be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours and transferred to 70% ethanol for longer-term storage at 2-8°C. Unstained slides require positively charged glass to prevent background staining and tissue loss.
Limitations
This test is focused solely on the technical component of CD99 staining via immunohistochemistry and does not include a pathologist's interpretive report. Specimens must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin or B plus; other fixatives will lead to rejection.
