CK 19
Use
Cytokeratin 19 (CK19) is a low-molecular-weight keratin protein expressed in simple epithelia, particularly in biliary and ductal cells, and is commonly found in a variety of carcinomas. In pathology, CK19 is used to identify and diagnose carcinomas, particularly those of epithelial origin such as cholangiocarcinoma, pancreatic cancer, and breast cancer.
Special Instructions
Fresh Tissues: Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer-term storage if needed. Samples must be tested 3 months after placing in ethanol. Unstained slides: Positively charged glass slides required to prevent background staining and prevent tissue loss. Slides should be left unbaked.
Limitations
Stated turnaround times (TATs) are for clinical use only and subject to change based on biopharma protocol requirements. All other fixatives than 10% NBF or B plus will be rejected. Fresh tissues must be fixed for 6-72 hours, preferably 48-72 hours.
