CK 19, technical only
Use
Cytokeratin 19 (CK19) is a low-molecular-weight keratin protein expressed in simple epithelia, particularly in biliary and ductal cells, and is commonly found in a variety of carcinomas. In pathology, CK19 is used to identify and diagnose carcinomas, particularly those of epithelial origin such as cholangiocarcinoma, pancreatic cancer, and breast cancer. The technical component of this test helps in research and study objectives but does not include pathology reading.
Special Instructions
This test is limited to the technical component only, and does not include the pathologist's interpretation. Samples need to be tested within three months if transferred to 70% ethanol for long-term storage.
Limitations
The CK19 test is technical only and does not include the pathologist interpretation. Samples exceeding the recommended fixation or storage time may affect test outcomes. Proper fixation in 10% neutral buffered formalin is critical to test accuracy. Extreme temperatures during shipping should be avoided.
