CK 8/18
Use
Cytokeratins (CK) 8 and 18 are major components of the intermediate filaments in thyroid, liver, and most simple epithelia. CK8/18 is used as a marker to aid in the identification of adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas, Paget cells, metastatic gastric, and colorectal carcinomas.
Special Instructions
Fresh tissue specimens should be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol for long-term storage. Unstained slides must be on positively charged glass to prevent background staining and tissue loss. Testing should occur within three months of placement in ethanol.
Limitations
Specification of the fixation time is critical for accurate results. The test is not suitable for tissue not fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin or B plus.
