Epithelial-Related antigen (MOC-31), technical only
Use
Epithelial-related antigen (ERA) is a cell membrane glycoprotein expressed on healthy epithelia and in various carcinomas. ERA may be used to differentiate carcinoma from mesothelioma. Technical component only. Pathologist read not included.
Special Instructions
Fresh Tissues: Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer term storage if needed. Samples must be tested 3 months after placing in ethanol. Unstained slides: Positively charged glass slides required to prevent background staining and prevent tissue loss. Slides should be left unbaked.
Limitations
This test is technical only, meaning that the pathologist read and interpretation are not included. Specimens must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin or B plus; other fixatives will result in rejection. The stability of fresh tissues is limited to 72 hours, while FFPE blocks and unstained slides have indefinite stability. Specimens outside of specified conditions may impact the test's analytical performance.
