Galectin-3, technical only
Use
Galectin-3 is involved in important biological processes such as cell-cell adhesion, cell-matrix interactions, macrophage activation, angiogenesis, metastasis, and apoptosis. It is a beta-galactoside-binding protein with roles in various cellular functions and is utilized predominantly for its technical components without pathologist interpretation.
Special Instructions
This test is technical only, meaning a pathologist read is not included. Special considerations for specimen handling include ensuring fresh tissues are fixed properly and using positively charged slides for unstained slides to prevent background staining and tissue loss.
Limitations
The test is limited to providing technical information only and does not include pathologist interpretation. Specimens that are not fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin or B plus will be rejected. The test relies on proper specimen preparation and fixation, with specific protocols for fresh tissues and unstained slides to ensure quality results.
