Gastrin
Use
Gastrin is a polypeptide hormone crucial for digestive functions. It is naturally occurring in three forms: gastrin-14, gastrin-17, and gastrin-34. Its measurement aids in diagnosing disorders characterized by G-cell hyperplasia, including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and G-cell hypersecretion. Understanding these levels can help address conditions related to hypergastrinemia and guide in clinical diagnosis of gastric disorders.
Special Instructions
Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours and then transferred to 70% ethanol for storage at 2-8°C. Unstained slides should use positively charged glass to prevent tissue loss and unbaked to avoid background staining.
Limitations
Specimens using any fixatives other than 10% neutral buffered formalin or B plus will be rejected. Final turnaround times may vary based on biopharma protocol requirements. Testing should be completed within 3 months after placing in ethanol for best results. Turnaround time is subject to change and will be determined by study contract.
