Hairy cell leukemia (DBA44), technical only
Use
The DBA44 protein marker is a surface antigen associated with hairy cell leukemia (HCL), which is primarily expressed on the abnormal B-cells characteristic of this disorder. In pathology, DBA44 is used to help differentiate HCL from other B-cell lymphomas, as it is highly specific for HCL cells. Technical component only. Pathologist read not included.
Special Instructions
Fresh Tissues: Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer term storage if needed. Samples must be tested 3 months after placing in ethanol. Unstained slides: Positively charged glass slides required to prevent background staining and prevent tissue loss. Slides should be left unbaked.
Limitations
This test provides technical information only and does not include a pathologist's interpretation. The specificity of DBA44 to hairy cell leukemia is highly regarded, but its presence alone should not be used for a conclusive diagnosis without correlation with clinical findings and other laboratory tests.
