Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1
Use
Qualitative real-time PCR assay for the detection of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). HSV-1 primarily causes oral herpes but can also lead to genital infections and more severe complications like encephalitis and keratitis. Clinically, HSV-1 is important due to its high prevalence, its potential for recurrent outbreaks, and its ability to cause significant morbidity in immunocompromised individuals.
Special Instructions
Fresh tissue should be submitted in transport medium such as RPMI, Hanks, or equivalent. Frozen tissue must be frozen within 4 hours of collection. TATs are subject to change based on biopharma protocol requirements.
Limitations
The test is intended for clinical purposes and is not intended to be used as a sole criteria for diagnosis. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical findings. Specimen handling and transport conditions are critical for accurate results, including maintaining appropriate temperatures and using the correct transport media.
