Mammaglobin
Use
Mammaglobin A expression is highly specific for tumors derived from the breast, female genital tract, and salivary glands. It is used as a diagnostic marker in identifying breast cancer and other related tumors. The test provides critical information for determining the origin of metastatic tumors and aids in guiding treatment decisions, especially in differentiating between primary and metastatic tumor origins.
Special Instructions
Fresh Tissues: Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer-term storage if needed. Unstained slides: Positively charged glass slides required to prevent background staining and prevent tissue loss. Slides should be left unbaked. Care must be taken to ensure proper fixation and storage to maintain specimen integrity.
Limitations
Specimens must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin (NBF) for accurate results. Specimens fixed with other fixatives will be rejected. The test is designed to detect mammaglobin A expression only and should be interpreted in the context of other diagnostic findings. The accuracy of the test is dependent on proper specimen handling and preparation as per the guidelines provided. Results may vary if protocols are not strictly followed.
