MUC1
Use
MUC1 is a transmembrane glycoprotein mucin 1 that lines the apical surface of epithelial cells in several organs and tissues including the lungs, stomach, pancreas, kidney, colon, and breast. MUC1 expression is characteristic of most epithelial tumors but is generally absent in lymphomas, leukemias, melanomas, and sarcomas.
Special Instructions
Fresh tissues may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer term storage if needed. Samples must be tested within 3 months of placement in ethanol. Unstained slides require positively charged glass slides to prevent background staining and tissue loss. Slides should be left unbaked.
Limitations
Analytical performance and interpretive accuracy may vary based on specimen type and fixation method. Specimens not fixed in 10% NBF or B plus will be rejected. Final results are subject to methodology limitations inherent to immunohistochemistry protocols, such as specificity and background staining.
