Myogenin
Use
Myogenin is a myogenic transcriptional regulatory protein that is expressed early in skeletal muscle differentiation. Its expression is detected in rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a malignant tumor of mesenchymal origin. It is useful in differentiating rhabdomyosarcoma from other types of muscle tissue tumors in diagnostic pathology.
Special Instructions
Fresh tissues should be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours at collection sites. After fixation, they may be transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer-term storage if needed. Unstained slides require positively charged glass slides to prevent background staining and tissue loss.
Limitations
Specimens must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin or B plus. Any other fixatives will result in specimen rejection. Specimen stability is dependent on appropriate fixation and storage conditions. The accuracy of the test can also be affected by improper handling and preparation of tissue samples.
