p16, technical only
Use
p16 is a tumor suppressor protein encoded by CDKN2A gene. Positive staining (overexpression) correlates with oncogenic HPV infection and HPV-independent mechanisms found in head and neck cancer and anogenital lesions. Technical component only. Pathologist read not included.
Special Instructions
Fresh Tissues: Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer term storage if needed. Samples must be tested 3 months after placing in ethanol. Unstained slides: Positively charged glass slides required to prevent background staining and prevent tissue loss. Slides should be left unbaked.
Limitations
The test is limited to technical component only and does not include pathologist interpretation. Specimens must be fixed in 10% NBF or B plus to avoid rejection. Shipping conditions must be followed to prevent damage during transit, and care should be given to avoid extreme temperatures.
