TAG 72, technical only
Use
TAG-72 is a glycoprotein expressed on the surface of many epithelial tumor cells, particularly those in gastrointestinal, breast, and ovarian cancers. In pathology, TAG-72 is used to identify carcinomas, especially those of the gastrointestinal tract, and is useful for differentiating these from benign lesions. This test is used primarily in the context of technical pathology for carcinoma identification.
Special Instructions
This is the technical component only. Pathologist read not included. Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol for longer-term storage. Unstained slides require positively charged glass slides to prevent background staining and tissue loss.
Limitations
Stated turnaround times are for clinical use only and subject to change based on biopharma protocol requirements. Final TATs will be specified in the biopharma study contract. The test does not include pathologist interpretation. Specimens not fixed in 10% NBF will be rejected.
