Thyroid Transcription Factor-1, technical only
Use
TTF-1 is crucial for the development of the thyroid, lung, and brain. It is used to differentiate between lung adenocarcinomas and other malignancies, as its expression is strongly positive in non-small cell lung cancer and thyroid tumors. Valuable in identifying metastatic tumors to the lung, TTF-1 positivity helps distinguish primary lung cancers from other carcinomas.
Special Instructions
This is a technical component only; a pathologist read is not included. Fresh tissues should be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours, then transferred to 70% ethanol for longer storage if needed. Slides must be positively charged to prevent loss and unbaked to avoid background staining.
Limitations
Specimens must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin or B plus; alternative fixatives are not acceptable and will lead to rejection. Stated turnaround times are clinical and may vary based on specific study protocols in a biopharma context.
