Vimentin, technical only
Use
Vimentin is an intermediate filament protein expressed in mesenchymal cells like fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells. In pathology, it is used to identify tumors of mesenchymal origin, such as sarcomas, and differentiate these from epithelial and other malignancies. The test is technical only, without the pathologist's interpretation.
Special Instructions
The test is designed for technical use and does not include the pathologist's interpretation. It is crucial for clinical studies where the pathologist's read is not required.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, limiting its use to technical verification rather than clinical diagnostics. Staining accuracy is dependent on specimen fixation quality and adherence to specified conditions.
