WT-1, technical only
Use
WT-1 (Wilms' Tumor 1) is a transcription factor essential for kidney development and is expressed in various tissues, particularly during embryogenesis. In pathology, WT-1 is used to diagnose and differentiate Wilms' tumor and other nephroblastic tumors from other types of kidney cancers. WT-1 expression is also used to identify certain hematologic malignancies, such as leukemia, and in ovarian serous carcinomas. This test evaluates the expression of WT-1 as an immunohistochemical marker in tissue samples to assist in the diagnosis of these conditions.
Special Instructions
This is a technical component only. Pathologist read not included. Special considerations for specimen handling include reducing background staining by using positively charged slides and avoiding baking of slides, and proper specimen transfer and storage as per listed guidelines.
Limitations
The test is for technical only, meaning pathologist interpretation is not included. Turnaround times may vary due to biopharma protocol requirements and will be specified in biopharma study contract. Specimens must be fixed with specified fixatives; rejection criteria apply for alternative fixatives. Results are dependent on the quality and handling of tissue samples.
