GeneSight
Use
GeneSight® Psychotropic is a pharmacogenomic test intended to help inform medication selection and treatment decisions for psychiatric medications by identifying potential gene–drug interactions based on a patient’s genetic results. Results are intended to supplement other clinical and patient-specific factors considered by a healthcare provider during a comprehensive medical assessment. It evaluates pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic genes and provides report-based medication categorization and clinical considerations when applicable.
Special Instructions
Test must be ordered by a registered clinician. Collect a cheek (buccal) swab using the provided collection kit (in-office or at-home collection kit). Submit the sample per kit instructions and required paperwork as applicable. Results are delivered through the GeneSight clinician report workflow once the laboratory receives the specimen.
Limitations
GeneSight® Psychotropic does not identify which medication will work for a patient and does not replace clinical judgment. Medication response is multifactorial; non-genetic factors (e.g., drug–drug interactions, diet, age, environment, and other clinical factors) may affect outcomes and are not captured by the test. Genetic results do not change based on current medications. Some medications may have “No Proven Genetic Markers,” meaning genetic markers have not yet been discovered to reliably categorize them.
