Carbonic Anhydrase IX (CA IX)
Use
Carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) is a cell surface transmembrane protein predominantly found in the gastrointestinal tract and gall bladder. In adenocarcinoma, glandular regions of the colon become positive, while in normal colon they are negative. CA IX is also expressed in epithelial tumors including carcinomas of the esophagus, lung, colon, kidney (clear cell renal carcinoma), cervix, and non‑small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). It is absent in normal kidney, chromophobe carcinomas, and oncocytomas, making it a useful marker to distinguish clear cell renal carcinomas from other renal neoplasms.
