CD117 cKIT
Use
CD117 (cKIT) is a transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase expressed in diverse tissues such as mast cells, melanocytes, basal skin cells, breast glandular epithelium, dermal sweat glands, esophageal glands, and interstitial cells of testicular and ovarian tissue. Aberrant cKit expression is implicated in myeloid leukemias and is observed in various solid tumors including gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), melanoma, breast carcinoma, and small cell lung carcinoma. The C‑Kit pharmDX™ IHC assay aids in the differential diagnosis of GIST, and accurate assessment of CD117 protein expression is increasingly critical in guiding clinical management and therapy selection, including treatment with imatinib mesylate (Gleevec®).
Special Instructions
For optimal results, NeoGenomics prefers a formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded (FFPE) tissue block. Alternatively, submit one unbaked, unstained H&E slide (required) and two to three positively charged unstained slides cut at 4–5 microns for each test or antibody ordered. Block and slide identifiers must exactly match those on the requisition. During transport, use a cold pack ensuring it does not contact the specimen directly. New York State clients must provide the date and time of collection. CPT codes shown are for informational purposes only based on AMA guidelines; correct coding is the responsibility of the billing party.
