Use
CD138 (Syndecan‑1) immunohistochemistry (IHC) is used to identify plasma cells and certain carcinoma types by positive staining; it also helps differentiate between plasma cell tumors (e.g., myeloma, primary effusion lymphoma) and mature B‑cell lymphomas, which are CD138 negative.
Special Instructions
Level of Service: Tech Only. Use cold pack for transport, avoiding direct contact with specimen. For New York State clients, provide date and time of collection. Block and slide identifiers must match specimen ID and requisition.

Collection Instructions
A formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded (FFPE) tissue block is preferred specimen type or one unbaked, unstained slide for H&E plus two to three positively charged unstained slides (all cut at 4‑5 microns) for each test/antibody ordered. Block and slide identifiers should match specimen ID on requisition.
