CD56
Use
CD56 recognizes proteins of the neural cell adhesion molecule, used as a marker for NK cell neoplasms. It is expressed on neuroectodermally-derived cell lines and some mesodermally-derived tumors (e.g., neuroendocrine carcinomas, rhabdomyosarcoma) and on natural killer cells.
Special Instructions
Ensure Block and slide identifiers are clearly written to match the specimen ID and specimen labeling as noted on the requisition.
Limitations
The test is limited to markers expressed in the assessed tissue types, potential for false positives in benign neoplasms and variable expression in malignant plasma cells.
