OCT4
Use
Octamer Binding Transcription Factor 4 (OCT4, also known as OCT3/4, POU51) is a transcription factor expressed by early embryonic cells, germ cells, and stem cells. It is a nuclear marker of classical seminoma and embryonal carcinoma, providing excellent sensitivity and specificity for these tumors. It is used as a screening tool for these neoplasms when dealing with a metastatic tumor of unknown origin.
Special Instructions
The specimen type preferred is a formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue block, or alternatively, unbaked, unstained slides for H&E staining. Ensure that block and slide identifiers match exactly with the specimen ID on the requisition.
Limitations
This test specifically targets OCT4 expression through immunohistochemistry. Due to its specific focus on OCT4, it may not detect other potential markers present in the specimen. Incorrect specimen handling or preparation can lead to testing errors.
