p53 Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
Use
The product of the p53 gene is a nuclear phosphoprotein that regulates cell proliferation. Excess accumulation of the mutant p53 gene product results in inactivation of its tumor suppressor function and cellular transformation. Overexpression of mutant p53 gene has been associated with high proliferative rates and poor prognosis in various cancers including breast, colon, lung, and brain cancer, as well as some leukemias and lymphomas.
