SMMHC Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
Use
Smooth Muscle Myosin, Heavy Chain (SMMS-1) is an antibody that reacts with human visceral and vascular smooth muscle cells. It is very helpful in distinguishing between benign sclerosing breast lesions and infiltrating carcinomas, as it strongly stains the myoepithelial layer in benign lesions and is negative in infiltrating carcinomas.
Special Instructions
Block and slide identifiers should be clearly written and match with the specimen ID as noted on the requisition. Use cold pack for transport, ensuring it does not contact the specimen directly. NYS clients should provide collection date and time.
Limitations
The test focuses specifically on the SMMS-1 marker. It may not detect other conditions not related to the differences between benign sclerosing breast lesions and infiltrating carcinomas.
