Y Chromosome Deletion Analysis
Use
This test is intended for individuals exhibiting features indicative of Y chromosome infertility or those with a clinical or suspected diagnosis of such. It is particularly relevant for males who are experiencing azoospermia or severe oligospermia and those undergoing fertility evaluation. Additionally, it may be useful for males considering assisted reproductive technology procedures.
Special Instructions
The test is performed using targeted PCR methodology, which is designed specifically for the detection of Y chromosome deletions. STAT testing is available, which expedites the process to 8-10 days at an additional cost. Providing accurate clinical information supports the interpretation of genetic variants and enhances diagnosis precision.
Limitations
This analysis is restricted to detecting deletions on the Y chromosome and does not provide information on other potential genetic abnormalities that could influence male infertility. A negative result does not necessarily rule out genetic causes for infertility as it only targets specific regions of the Y chromosome. Only the specified specimens can be used for testing, and any deviations from collection or preservation protocols could impact test validity.
