TPMT Enzyme
Use
PROMETHEUS TPMT Enzyme testing provides a quantitative analysis of a patient’s thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT) enzyme activity level. The test is essential for phenotyping a patient to aid in individualizing a starting dose of thiopurines. The efficacy and toxicity of thiopurines can vary widely among patients, and knowledge of the TPMT enzyme phenotype may reduce time to response, allow physicians to individualize dosing, identify patients in whom thiopurine therapy should be avoided, and help reduce the risk of leukopenia.
Special Instructions
Performed exclusively at Prometheus Laboratories Inc., a clinical reference laboratory in San Diego. As a laboratory-developed test, it has not been FDA cleared or approved. The test is CLIA certified and CAP accredited.
