Use
Determination of ethanol (ethyl alcohol) levels in whole blood (primary) or alternative specimen types such as serum or EDTA whole blood provides quantitative measurement of alcohol concentration for clinical, legal, or toxicologic interpretation.
Special Instructions
Do not use alcohol-based solutions for skin preparation—use non‑alcohol solutions such as Betadine® or Zephiran®. Specimens must remain capped and sealed; do not open to avoid atmospheric exposure.
Limitations
This assay was developed and its analytical performance characteristics determined by Quest Diagnostics and is not FDA cleared or approved. It has been validated under CLIA regulations and used for clinical purposes. Interpretation must consider possible post‑collection exposure effects such as evaporation or dilution.
